Spectrolichts are a closed species, meaning you must earn the right to own one. This is done through participating in the community through our Discord server! MYO (Make-Your-Own design) slots- as well as premade designs and customs- can be bought, won or earned there, including through frequent and generous events!

You do not need to own a Spectrolicht to participate in the community! You can even earn extra rewards for drawing Spectrolichts that belong to other users.

MYO designs must go through our approval channel in the discord and then be submitted to the masterlist before they are considered official Spectrolichts. Designs that have been won or purchased through raffles, adopts or events only need to be submitted to the masterlist by the new owner, with proof that they obtained the design!

Spectrolichts that have been obtained from another user do not need to be reuploaded, however Please do not trade for or buy a Spectrolicht that does not have a Masterlist entry. We cannot guarantee that the Spectrolicht is official if no Masterlist entry can be provided- meaning you would need to buy and use items to make it official.

Only Mod Artists and Guest Artists can make Spectrolicht adopts. These are considered Official Designs, as they are made by recognised designers for the species.

Mod Artists can also take custom designs, which can include Origin Traits, and do not require the usage of any items. You can, however, commission anyone for a Spectrolicht design, but if they are not a Mod Artist you will need to put the design through approvals and use the appropriate items like any other MYO.

Spectrolichts have a wide variety of traits to choose from, each with their own rarity. Common traits are unlimited on (and free to add to) any Spectrolicht, but to add traits of higher rarities to a new or preexisting design, you must own the corresponding rarity of Bloom (for Normal Spectrolichts) or Flame (for Corrupted Ones)!

Most of these trait items can be bought with real money or species currency, which is earned through art and events- however, Origin traits may only be obtained through the monthly Origin Bloom raffle, events, or by obtaining an official design with an Origin trait.

You can view a detailed list of our traits here!

Frequent events are hosted in our Discord Server! These often involve creating Spectrolicht artwork for increased or exclusive rewards.

One of these exclusive rewards is a trait item called a Reflective Gem- it lets you use an exclusive event trait (Promo trait) from its associated event! For example, if you obtain a Reflective Gem from October 2022, you may use it to apply an October 2022 Promo Trait to one of your Spectrolichts!

You can view a detailed list of our Promo traits here!

Spectrolichts can have companions! These work a little differently from usual traits. Each Spectrolicht has 5 companion slots, of which each MYO comes with one free common slot! Each subsequent slot can be bought with an Uncommon, Rare or Ultra-Rare Bloom (for Normal Spectrolichts) or Flame (for Corrupted Spectrolicht). The rarity goes as follows:

Common & Uncommon: Real life animals!
Rare: Prehistoric or Extinct animals!
Ultra-Rare: Fictional Animals!

You can have as many as you want of any rarity, as long as the total of the companions is 5 or less. Which means, if you really want, you can have 5 Giratinas!

Multiform allows a Spectrolicht's traits to change! This could be as simple as them having a second form with horns and dark eyes, or having another form that looks entirely different to their first!

Multiform also allows Spectrolichts to have both normal and corrupted forms!
Canonically, a Spectrolicht may not actively switch in between their corrupted and normal form (in a way that would remind you of shapeshifting). However, we do not moderate artistic interpretation of normal and corrupted multiforms- a gif showing off both forms by switching between them is perfectly fine!

Adding a form to a Spectrolicht requires one Shifting Stone per form, along with the appropriate amount of blooms/flames for any new traits being added.

Along with the Shifting Stone, adding the first Corrupted form to a Normal Spectrolicht requires one Broken Lantern, and adding the first Normal form to a Corrupted Spectrolicht requires one Lantern Frame. Any subsequent forms require only the Shifting Stone. If both types of form are being added upon the Spectrolicht's creation, both lanterns are required.

Any traits shared between forms do not require the use of extra items- for example, if a Normal Spectrolicht has Colored Pupils on two forms, you only need to use one uncommon bloom.

Likewise, any traits of a similar nature shared between a normal and corrupted form do not require extra items. For example, if a Spectrolicht has the Ultra-Rare Flower Tail trait, this can be given to their corrupted form as the Mushroom/Wilted Flower Tail trait free of charge.

Currently, a Spectrolicht's element cannot change between two or more Normal forms, or two or more Corrupted forms. However, a Spectrolicht's element will usually change between a Normal and Corrupted form- for example, Happiness to Anger. This is due to the inherently different nature of Normal and Corrupted elements.

The same goes for plant growth- a Normal Spectrolicht's plant growth will change to thorns and mushrooms on a Corrupted form, but otherwise must stay the same between forms of the same type

Spectrolichts do not require the Complex Element trait for the element's appearance to change between a Normal and Corrupted form, but it is required if the element appearance changes between two or more Normal forms, or two or more Corrupted forms.

Spectrolichts require the Color-Changing Eyes trait if the iris color changes between any forms, Normal or Corrupted.

Spectrolichts require the Color-Changing Fur trait if the fur color changes between two or more Normal forms, or two or more Corrupted forms. Spectrolichts do not require the Color-Changing Fur trait for the fur color to change between a Normal and Corrupted form.

Spectrolichts do not require Color-Changing traits if the color change is already tied to a trait- e.g. Standard Eyes that change to Dark Eyes, or standard fur that changes to Neon Fur.

Specklets, scientifically known as Follets, are baby/juvenile Spectrolichts! This will detail basic Specklet anatomy, traiting, and how to obtain them.

We ask that Spectrolichts that fall under any of the below categories, or CBCs of any characters that fall under any of these categories, are not used in the creation of Specklets:
-Minors
-Relatives
-Abusive relationships

Specklets go through two distinct stages of life- Early Childhood/"Baby", and Adolescence/"Teenage".

Baby Specklets have very large ears, foliage around their lanterns for protection, very short front legs, a tail that drags on the ground for balance (and by extension a tail lantern that hovers upright instead), and a very short body with fawn-like spots. Their flower growth is also replaced with buds, and their horns have not started to grow yet.

Teen Specklets have slightly smaller ears, but still larger than an adult's; a low-hanging and curled tail, and a short body that may still have spots. Their flowers have grown to near or complete maturity, and their horns have started to grow as well.

You can view a much more detailed description of Specklets, their anatomy and their behaviour here.

Any Spectrolicht can be drawn at any stage of their life, both for the masterlist and in other art- meaning you can create a Specklet using any MYO slot. You may also use a DIY lantern to create a Specklet based on two or more parents, which is detailed further down in the guide.

Specklets may also be obtained through Mod Artist Specklet Batches, in which you commission a Mod Artist to make a batch of 3-4 designs (of which you can pick one to keep, or more for an additional fee) based on 2 or more parents of your choice. The designs in the batches will be drawn as adults, however you are free to make Specklet versions of them.

Spectrolichts do not need multiform to have younger/older forms if there are no differences in their trait lists, and younger/older forms do not need to be included in the masterlist image to be valid for art redemption.

Specklets are traited based on how they will look as an adult. For the most part, Specklets' traits remain the same as adult Spectrolichts- however, there are some key differences, such as the horns and tail.

-Since their horns do not start to grow until they are the equivalent of a teenager, a very young Specklet with no visible horns does not need the No Horns trait, unless they are intended to stay that way as they get older.
-A Specklet at any stage also does not need the Low-Hanging Tail trait, unless it is intended to stay that way as they get older.
-A Specklet may need the Minimal Flower Growth trait if it has less than six flower buds, however they do not need to be as large as the flowers would be on an adult Spectrolicht.

A DIY Lantern allows you to make a single Specklet that inherits its traits and appearance from two or more Spectrolichts.

The Specklet can inherit any traits from any parent (with some restrictions on Corrupted traits, see the Corrupted Parents section), without the need for blooms! The Specklet must resemble its parents in terms of fur colours as well.

A Specklet will inherit its element from one or more of its parents- for example, a Light Spectrolicht and a Love Spectrolicht could have a Specklet with Light element, Love element, or something related to either or both traits, e.g. Energy, Affection or Happiness. The element can also remain unspecified.

A Specklet does not have to inherit its lantern shapes or flower growth from its parents!

Specklets cannot be born corrupted, although a Spectrolicht can corrupt at any age- therefore, Specklets created using a DIY lantern or obtained from a Specklet Batch cannot be corrupted to begin with. You are free to add a corrupted form to them later. You can also use a Broken Lantern to create a Corrupted Specklet.

Specklets made using DIY Lanterns or obtained from a Specklet Batch can inherit up to 3 corrupted-exclusive traits from any corrupted parents! The traits that can be inherited are:

Eyes:
(UC) Insect Eyes
(O) Dark Flower Eyes

Ears:
(C) Smoke Tufts

Horns:
(C) Antennae

Tails:
(C) Insect Tail
(UC) Smoke Tail | (UC) Skeleton Tail | (UC) Rattle Tail | (UC) Tail Stinger
(UR) Mushroom/Wilted Flower Tail

Body/other:
(C) Insect Mouth | (C) Dromaeosaur Claw | (C) Bat Nose | (C) Froglike Tongue | (C) Smoke Wisps
(UC) Insect Wings | (UC) Exposed Bones | (UC) Venomous Fangs | (UC) Smoke Hair | (UC) Other Insect Parts | (UC) Withered Plant Mane
(R) Arachnid Legs | (R) Smoke Mane | (R) Wyvern Wings | (R) Multi-Mouthed
(UR) Possession

*the specklet must still have some normal elemental spots on their body, even if they have smoke traits!
**any other traits inherited from Corrupted parents will become their normal counterparts, eg (R) Low-Hanging Tail in place of (C) Standard Droopy Tail, (UC) Dark Eyes in place of (C) Dark Eyes, etc
***broken/missing lantern traits cannot be inherited!
